Who we are
The Economic Society of Tanzania (EST) is a non-profit organization that brings together economists and professionals interested in economics to promote economic research and advocate for economic policies. It serves as a platform for discussions on economic issues affecting Tanzania and the region, attracting members from academia, research institutes, the government, and private sectors.
Initially established in 1966 and registered under The Society Act, Cap 337 with registration number SO 5198, EST became inactive in 1998. However, it has recently been revived to resume its important role. The society’s membership consists of Tanzanian professional economists from both within the country and abroad.
EST serves as a forum for sharing emerging ideas and empirical findings from economic research with policymakers, regulators, and opinion leaders in the United Republic of Tanzania. Its primary objective is to enhance public awareness, stimulate interest, and encourage debates on economic issues. This is achieved through the organization of conferences, talks, workshops, public lectures, and conducting independent studies or collaborations with other organizations.
